Picus Electronic Calipers

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
If the PICUS callipers are used, the overall testing time is reduced AND the cross-sectional plot of the tree at the test point is more accurate leading to more accurate tomograms. The PICUS has 3 test options included in the software, these being:
Essentially circular trees
Essentially elliptical trees
Free Geometry for irregular shaped trees
When using the software without the callipers the user will be advised where to place the test points. Occasionally, the advised test point will be sited in decay or a cavity which is not advisable. The PICUS callipers allow the user to position the test points exactly where required and the relative distances between the test points can be quickly and accurately measured using the PICUS callipers to produce a highly accurate cross-section of the test area. As sonic tomography relies on measuring sonic speeds between each test point it is easy to understand that the more accurate the cross section is plotted then the more accurate the resulting tomogram.
With large, irregular shaped trees; the PICUS callipers are virtually a must. It is possible to map the cross-section of such trees using the free geometry option and using other commercially available callipers, but the time taken is much more than that taken with the PICUS callipers.
The Calliper can be connected to a PC or Pocket PC wireless using Bluetooth radio standard. The use of the Calliper is embedded into the PICUS Sonic Tomograph software.
Due to its movable tips the calliper is easy to handle in transport position as well as in working position!
